miHoYo Imprisons Former Employees Over Bribery and Embezzlement
Chinese gaming giant miHoYo, known for Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero, has confirmed that four former employees have been sentenced to prison following an internal investigation. The case involved bribery and embezzlement, reinforcing miHoYo’s commitment to Zero Tolerance against corruption and unethical conduct.
Case Details
The four ex-employees exploited their positions to accept bribes and misappropriate company funds from business partners, seriously undermining trust. Sentences handed down by the court were:
- Employee 1: 1 year 4 months
- Employees 2 and 3: 1 year 3 months each
- Employee 4: 6 months
Additionally, miHoYo terminated another employee from the Genshin Impact marketing team for leveraging their position for personal gain. All relevant evidence has been handed over to authorities for further legal action.
miHoYo’s Zero Tolerance Policy
In an official statement, miHoYo emphasized that any form of corruption will not be tolerated. Employees found involved in fraud are immediately dismissed and blacklisted from working in the company indefinitely. This strict approach aims to maintain high ethical standards and safeguard organizational integrity.

Wider Industry Impact
Suppliers and business partners implicated in bribery were also blacklisted, with all collaboration permanently suspended. This strong move sends a clear message to the gaming industry: miHoYo is committed to transparency and ethical business practices.
The action comes as the digital entertainment industry continues to grow rapidly. For example, in 2025, Google reported over $60 billion in YouTube subscription and advertising revenue, reflecting the booming market in which miHoYo is a major player. Strengthening internal controls now ensures the company is prepared for future expansion.
