PS Portal Becomes the Most Used Device for PS5 Remote Play

It’s been two years since PlayStation Portal, or PS Portal, first launched. Initially designed solely for Remote Play, Sony has since expanded its capabilities, adding Cloud Gaming features that transformed it into a portable online console. Despite these updates, its main appeal remains the ability to stream console-quality gameplay from the living room to a handheld screen.

Recently, Tech Radar revealed that the PS Portal has officially become the most used device for PS5 Remote Play. According to Sony’s representatives, it has surpassed both PCs and smartphones, even though Remote Play apps have long been available for those platforms. Interestingly, users are also choosing to stream games through the Portal more often than directly from their consoles.
The PlayStation Portal resembles a DualSense controller split in half with an 8-inch 1080p display at 60 FPS in the center. It retains hallmark DualSense features like Adaptive Triggers and Haptic Feedback, offering an authentic PlayStation experience in a portable form. Compatible with PS4 and PS5 titles, it simply requires a high-speed internet connection. In Southeast Asia, it retails at around 7,790 baht.
The device’s growing popularity highlights how players crave flexible gaming experiences without compromising console performance. This trend might inspire Sony to reconsider developing a true next-generation handheld console—something many fans have been waiting for.
THIS IS OUR SAY:
The PS Portal’s dominance proves that players still love handheld experiences when done right. Maybe, just maybe, it’s time for Sony to bring back a true portable PlayStation.
