Street Fighter Live-Action Movie Revealed with First Trailer at The Game Awards 2025

Street Fighter Made Its Live-Action Debut at The Game Awards 2025

During The Game Awards 2025, CAPCOM partnered with Legendary Pictures to reveal the first official trailer for the live-action Street Fighter movie. The reveal offered fans a first look at the cast in full costume, reimagined faithfully from the iconic fighting game series while adapting details for cinematic realism. The presentation also confirmed that the film was targeting a worldwide theatrical release later in the year.

The movie’s story was set in 1993 and followed the journey of Ryu and Ken, who were drawn into a dangerous global fighting tournament. The two warriors were recruited by Chun-Li, a special agent who uncovered the truth behind the competition and sought their help to confront the threat behind it. With lives at stake, the tournament served as the central battleground where legendary fighters clashed.

Classic Characters Returned with Reimagined Designs

While the core narrative drew inspiration from Street Fighter II, the character designs blended elements from multiple entries across the franchise. Ryu and Ken appeared in outfits inspired by their Street Fighter II appearances, while Cammy’s design reflected her look from the Zero series. Other characters, including Juli and Dan Hibiki, also appeared with costumes adapted from different eras of the games.

The film further expanded its roster by including Joe, a lesser-known fighter from the franchise who had never appeared as a playable character. This creative choice suggested a broader exploration of the Street Fighter universe beyond the most familiar faces.

Star-Studded Cast Brought Fighters to Life

The ensemble cast featured Andrew Koji as Ryu and Noah Centineo as Ken, with Callina Liang portraying Chun-Li. Vidyut Jammwal took on the role of Dhalsim, while Cody Rhodes appeared as Guile. Jason Momoa portrayed Blanka, joined by Olivier Richters as Zangief and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda.

Roman Reigns stepped into the role of Akuma, with Mel Jarnson as Cammy and 50 Cent as Balrog. David Dastmalchian portrayed M. Bison, while Orville Peck appeared as Vega. Supporting roles included Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, Eric André as Don Sauvage, and Kyle Mooney as Marvin.

Global Release Confirmed for October

The live-action Street Fighter movie was confirmed to be fully completed, with filming wrapped up in November following a production period that began in 2023 and continued through the summer of 2025. The film was scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16, bringing one of gaming’s most iconic franchises to the big screen for audiences around the world.

Street Fighter’s live-action debut showed clear respect for its legacy, and with a bold cast and faithful visual direction, the film had the potential to finally deliver a video game adaptation that truly lands its punches.
