Exodus Developer Confirms Matthew McConaughey’s Voice Is 100% Real and Not AI-Generated

Exodus Addresses AI Voice Concerns Head-On

One of the most talked-about elements of the upcoming sci-fi RPG Exodus, aside from its strong Mass Effect-like atmosphere, is the involvement of Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey. The Oscar-winning actor makes his first-ever video game voice appearance as the mysterious character C.C. Orlev, while also serving as the narrator in the game’s latest trailer that captured global attention.

However, concerns quickly surfaced among fans after McConaughey was revealed to have signed a separate agreement with ElevenLabs, a company specializing in AI-generated voice technology. This led to speculation that the voice heard in Exodus might have been synthetically produced rather than traditionally recorded.

Studio Confirms No AI Was Used

Chad Robertson, co-founder of Archetype Entertainment, has now publicly addressed these concerns. He confirmed unequivocally that all voice work in Exodus is fully recorded using traditional voice acting methods. According to Robertson, every line of dialogue and narration was captured through dedicated recording sessions, with zero use of AI or synthetic voice generation.

He further clarified that McConaughey’s agreement with ElevenLabs is entirely separate from his work on Exodus and comes with strict limitations. That contract does not apply to the game in any capacity.

Archetype’s Stance on AI in Game Development

Robertson acknowledged that artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly important topic within the game industry, particularly as studios explore ways to reduce costs and accelerate production. Despite this, Archetype has no plans to incorporate generative AI into Exodus at this stage.

The studio remains committed to human-driven creative work, emphasizing that authentic performances and emotional nuance are essential to delivering a premium narrative experience. Internal discussions around AI are ongoing, but for Exodus, the focus remains firmly on traditional craftsmanship.

What to Expect from Exodus

Exodus was recently showcased again during The Game Awards, highlighting its ambitious sci-fi setting and narrative depth. The game is being developed by several former BioWare veterans, including Drew Karpyshyn, the lead writer behind the Mass Effect series.

A key gameplay feature revolves around time dilation, where faster-than-light travel causes time to pass differently, directly affecting long-term consequences and story outcomes based on player decisions. This mechanic is positioned as one of Exodus’ defining elements.

THIS IS OUR SAY

In an era where AI skepticism is growing, Archetype’s transparent stance reinforces trust and proves that premium storytelling still relies on genuine human performance.
