YouTube Adds New Search Filters to Separate Shorts from Regular Videos
YouTube has rolled out a significant update to its search system, allowing users to filter results by video type. With the new feature, viewers can now choose to see only long-form videos or only Shorts, helping to reduce clutter and make content discovery more convenient.
Previously, search results often mixed regular videos and Shorts together, which many users found frustrating. The update brings clear filter options at the top of the search page, making it easier to find the type of content you want without scrolling through unwanted clips.
Other Improvements in the Update
- YouTube has removed less-used filters, including Upload Date – Last Hour and Sort by Rating, which were often inconsistent or confusing. Filters for other time ranges, such as Today or This Week, remain available.
- A new Popularity filter replaces the old View count sort. This algorithm considers watch time and relevance signals, not just the number of views, to highlight videos that are both engaging and currently trending.
- The “Sort By” menu has been renamed Prioritize to better communicate the focus on helping users access the most relevant and interesting content faster.
