Metropolis 1998 Early Access Confirmed for Q4 2025

Metropolis 1998 Sets Early Access Launch Target for Q4 2025
Metropolis 1998, the eagerly watched city builder game from Yesbox Studios, is actively preparing for its launch into Early Access on Steam. The developer has confirmed that the earliest possible launch window is set for the fourth quarter of 2025. This title aims to capture the nostalgic aesthetic of 90s simulation games while implementing sophisticated, modern features.
A Modern Take on Classic City Building
Metropolis 1998 is a fresh approach to the city simulation genre. It leverages a charming isometric pixel-art style reminiscent of classics like SimCity and Rollercoaster Tycoon.
- Detailed Citizen Simulation: Unlike traditional zone-based city builders, this game features a complex simulation of individual citizens. Each person will have a detailed schedule, going to work, shopping, socializing, and sleeping. Players can even zoom in and see inside the buildings to watch their citizens live their simulated lives.
- Granular Demand: The simulation extends to the demand system. Instead of general “commercial zones,” demand is granular and based on the specific needs of the citizens. For example, the city will directly signal the need for a “grocery store” or a “shoe store.”
- Real-Time Traffic: The game includes a state-of-the-art real-time traffic simulation. This system is capable of pathing over 100,000 people and vehicles without causing system slowdowns.

Focus on Customization and Feedback
A key feature setting Metropolis 1998 apart is the level of creative control offered to the player.
- Design Your Own Buildings: Players have the unique option to design their own buildings in-game, from placing walls to arranging furniture. These creations can be saved as blueprints and shared with the community.
- Development Philosophy: The single developer behind Yesbox Studios has stressed that player feedback is priceless for a complex simulation game. The decision to launch into Early Access is specifically to ensure constant feedback from the community, shaping the development of the game over the estimated two-year Early Access period.
The game is currently available as a free pre-alpha demo on Steam. This allows players across the globe to test the core mechanics and provide early feedback on features like the new Creative Mode, which is currently in alpha.
Release Schedule
The game will be released on PC in 2026, and those who are interested can immediately visit the Steam store page to get information directly before anyone else, as well as add the game to the Wishlist to encourage the developer and get a free demo to play from today.
