Meta Launches Trade-In Program with Discounts Up to $122, Supporting Even Apple AirPods

Meta has officially rolled out its first-ever trade-in program for smart glasses, running from November 14 to December 31, 2025, according to legal documents on the company’s website. This program allows users to trade in old devices for a credit of up to $122 toward purchasing new smart glasses directly through Meta’s online store.
Eligible Devices for Trade-In
The trade-in program covers the following models: Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, Oakley Meta HSTN, and Oakley Meta Vanguard. Meta Ray-Ban Display, limited editions, and refurbished units are not eligible. Owners of the first-generation Ray-Ban Meta can trade in to upgrade, with credit determined by the device’s condition.
Interestingly, Meta also accepts trade-ins for wireless headphones from other brands, including Apple AirPods Pro, Beats Fit Pro, and Samsung Galaxy Buds3, offering up to $70 in credit. This marks an unusual strategy in the smart glasses market, aiming to attract users from competitor ecosystems.

There is, however, some confusion over the listing of Apple AirPods Pro 4, which does not exist yet. Experts suggest this may be a typographical error or Meta may have meant AirPods 4 or AirPods Pro 3. The company is expected to clarify soon to prevent consumer misunderstandings.
How to Use the Program
Using the program is simple: add the smart glasses you wish to purchase to your cart on the Meta website, and the Trade-In option will appear at the top. Some users on Reddit have suggested switching browsers or devices if the option does not appear, as the pilot program may not yet be fully stable for all users.
Savings Example
The maximum trade-in credit of $113–$122 can reduce the price of Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 from $379 to approximately $257–$266. This model features double the battery life and slightly improved cameras, while the first-generation model is discounted as well. Users not needing the enhanced features might find the first-gen option more cost-effective while still meeting basic usage needs.
Strategic Move
This trade-in program highlights Meta’s strategy to expand its AI wearable user base amid stiff competition. If successful, the initiative may continue into next year. Interested users should take advantage of the program before it ends at the end of 2025.
