Tales of Remaster Plans for 2026 Will Focus on Older Classics, Producer Says

Producer hints future remasters will prioritize earlier-era Tales of titles

Bandai Namco Entertainment’s long-running Tales of franchise may soon revisit its earliest roots. Despite the most recently announced remastered releases covering relatively modern entries, series producer Yusuke Tomizawa has revealed that upcoming remaster projects planned for 2026 will shift their focus toward significantly older, more classic titles.

The comments were shared as part of an official 30th anniversary video celebrating the history of the Tales of series, where Tomizawa reflected on the franchise’s past, present, and long-term future.

A Shift in Direction for the Tales Remastered Project

Tomizawa confirmed that Bandai Namco remains committed to the Tales Remastered Project, while also reiterating that a brand-new mainline Tales of title is currently in development, as previously announced. According to the producer, both initiatives are being planned in parallel as part of a broader, long-term strategy for the franchise.

The Tales Remastered Project officially launched in October 2024 with the goal of bringing legacy entries to modern platforms. Titles released or announced so far include:

  • Tales of Graces f Remastered (January 2025)
  • Tales of Xillia Remastered (scheduled for October 2025)
  • Tales of Berseria Remastered (launching February 27, 2026)

While these games are popular fan favorites, Tomizawa acknowledged that they represent relatively later chapters in the series, corresponding to entries 12, 13, and 16 respectively.

Older Classics to Take Priority Moving Forward

Looking ahead, Tomizawa stated that future remasters will deliberately target much older installments in the Tales of timeline. Early-era titles, particularly those from the franchise’s formative years, are seen as strong candidates due to how much they could benefit from modernized visuals, performance improvements, and updated gameplay systems.

One example frequently discussed by fans is Tales of Phantasia, the original entry that launched the series. According to Tomizawa, however, the decision to remaster any specific title is not based solely on release order or popularity. Practical considerations such as development feasibility and access to original source code also play a crucial role in determining which games can realistically be brought back.

Long-Term Planning for the Tales of Franchise

These remarks highlight Bandai Namco Entertainment’s careful, long-term approach to managing the Tales of brand. By balancing the revival of classic titles with the development of a completely new mainline installment, the publisher aims to satisfy longtime fans while ensuring the franchise remains relevant to new audiences.

Although the wait for the next original Tales of game may take time, the clearer roadmap for both remasters and future entries suggests that the journey of the Tales of series is far from over.
