Police Arrest Suspect in Path of Exile 2 Online Scam Case
This case has become another important reminder about online safety within the gaming community. Thai cyber police have successfully arrested a suspect involved in the fraudulent sale of Path of Exile 2 game keys. While the financial damage was relatively small, the incident clearly shows that online scams are taken seriously and that those responsible can be held accountable.
Cyber Police Take Action Against Path of Exile 2 Scam
The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau of Thailand reported that it received a complaint from a victim who was deceived into purchasing four Path of Exile 2 game keys, totaling 1,036.99 THB, through the official online reporting system at thaipoliceonline.go.th. The victim later met with investigators from Subdivision 3, Cyber Crime Division 5, in Surat Thani province to provide additional information for the investigation.
Through financial tracking and digital evidence, authorities were able to identify both the bank account used in the transaction and the individual behind the scam. With a search warrant, officers inspected a condominium room in Bang Bo district, Samut Prakan province, where they found a 20-year-old suspect along with evidence linked to social media accounts used in the fraudulent activity.
According to investigators, the suspect posed as a trusted intermediary to build confidence during online transactions. Once payments were made or items were handed over, the promised game keys were never delivered and communication was cut off. The suspect admitted to having previously been a victim of online scams and believed that cases involving small amounts or digital game items would not attract serious legal attention. This misunderstanding led to repeated offenses over a period of approximately two years.
This arrest reinforces the message that cybercrime leaves digital traces and that online misconduct, regardless of scale, can be investigated and prosecuted. Authorities are continuing to look for additional victims and are expanding the investigation to identify any related individuals.
