Ghost of Yōtei: A New Chapter in the Samurai Saga

Sucker Punch Productions is set to release Ghost of Yōtei, a standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, on October 2, 2025, exclusively for the PlayStation 5. This new installment introduces players to Atsu, a wandering rōnin who embarks on a quest for vengeance against the Yōtei Six, a group of outlaws responsible for the destruction of her family and home.
Atsu’s Journey
The story unfolds in 1603, 329 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, in the rugged terrain of Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido, Japan). Atsu, armed with her father’s katana, seeks to confront the Yōtei Six—The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and their leader, Lord Saitō. As she hunts them down, Atsu’s journey evolves from one of revenge to a deeper exploration of purpose and connection.
Gameplay Enhancements
Ghost of Yōtei builds upon its predecessor’s foundation, offering a third-person perspective that combines sword fighting, stealth, and exploration. Players can wield a diverse arsenal of weapons, including a traditional katana, tanegashima, ōdachi, yari, kusarigama, and the kaginawa (grappling hook), enabling varied tactical approaches. New features include dynamic weather effects such as snow, rain, and auroras inspired by the real environment around Mount Yōtei.
The game introduces a flexible, non-linear quest structure, allowing players to choose the order in which they confront the Yōtei Six. Atsu can also track other dangerous targets and claim bounties, or seek out weapon sensei to learn new skills. Ezo is wild, and as deadly as it is beautiful. As players trek across the open world, they’ll find unexpected dangers and peaceful reprieves, including activities like bathing in an onsen, cutting bamboo strikes, sumi-e painting, and setting up a campsite where Atsu can cook and play her shamisen.

Multiplayer Mode: Legends
In 2026, a free multiplayer mode titled “Legends” will be introduced, allowing players to choose from four character classes and face off against demonic, giant versions of the Yōtei Six, supported by a range of new enemies. The mode includes two-player story missions and four-player survival matches, expanding the game’s replayability and cooperative gameplay options.
