During the morning session of Taipei Game Show 2026, Arc System Works officially announced a brand-new spin-off title based on Journey to the West, titled Kunio-kun’s Nekketsu Journey to the West: Tenjiku Brawl. This new entry introduces a roguelike gameplay system, adding a higher level of unpredictability and excitement to the classic Kunio-kun formula. A playable demo was also showcased for the first time at the event.

Kunio-kun’s Nekketsu Journey to the West: Tenjiku Brawl is a beat em up action game that adapts the legendary Chinese literary classic Journey to the West, reimagined through the comedic lens of the Kunio-kun franchise. Familiar delinquent characters take on iconic roles such as Sun Wukong, Sha Wujing, Zhu Bajie, and Tang Sanzang, embarking on a humorous yet action-packed pilgrimage across fantasy-inspired landscapes.
The game is set against a Tang Dynasty inspired fantasy backdrop filled with demons, mythical creatures, and eccentric enemies that stand in the way of the journey. While maintaining the trademark humor of the Kunio-kun series, the roguelike structure ensures that each dungeon run offers unexpected challenges, enemy abilities, and power-ups that keep every attempt feeling fresh.
Familiar Spirit with a New Twist
The overall design and tone are reminiscent of River City Saga: Three Kingdoms Next, which previously adapted Chinese legends using Kunio-kun’s signature comedy. Players can expect exaggerated humor, unexpected story developments, and repeatable roguelike progression that gradually sharpens combat skills until enemies are finally overcome.

Kunio-kun’s Nekketsu Journey to the West: Tenjiku Brawl is scheduled to launch later this year on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A Steam store page will be made available in the future for players who wish to follow updates and add the game to their wishlist.
