Resident Evil Requiem Main Story Nearly Doubles in Length, 17 to 18 Hours Confirmed

Resident Evil Requiem is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the franchise, as the development team has officially confirmed that the main story will be significantly longer than recent titles. According to the game’s producer, players can expect a main campaign lasting approximately 17 to 18 hours, nearly double the length of some previous entries.

This makes Resident Evil Requiem comparable in scale to Resident Evil 4 Remake, which is widely regarded as one of the most content rich experiences in the series.

Two Protagonists, Two Distinct Experiences

The main story is divided into chapters and split evenly between two playable characters. Players will alternate between Leon S. Kennedy and Grace, with each character offering a clearly different gameplay focus.

Leon’s sections emphasize full scale action, intense combat encounters, and high pressure set pieces. In contrast, Grace’s segments lean heavily into pure survival horror, focusing on tension, fear, and limited resources. This dual structure is designed to give players two contrasting interpretations of the Resident Evil formula within a single campaign.

Addressing Past Criticism

In earlier entries such as Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village, many fans praised the atmosphere but criticized the relatively short main story length, which could often be completed in around 9 to 10 hours.

Capcom has acknowledged this feedback. With Resident Evil Requiem, the development team intentionally expanded the scope of the narrative, aiming to deliver a more substantial and satisfying single player experience that better matches fan expectations for a numbered entry.

A Bigger Commitment to Storytelling

The increased length suggests a heavier emphasis on narrative development, character arcs, and pacing. By splitting time evenly between Leon and Grace, the game can explore different tones and mechanics without sacrificing depth in either direction.

This approach also allows the story to unfold from multiple perspectives, reinforcing the horror elements while maintaining the franchise’s signature action moments.

Release Date and Platforms

Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

With its extended campaign and dual gameplay styles, Resident Evil Requiem is positioning itself as one of the most content packed and varied mainline entries the series has seen in years.
