Switch Sports Bundle Could Surpass PS2 Sales

Players believe the new Nintendo Switch Sports bundle may help the console surpass the legendary PlayStation 2 in lifetime sales, echoing the Wii’s winning strategy nearly two decades ago.
Nintendo’s Wii once broke records with over 100 million units sold, thanks in part to its groundbreaking motion controls and the bundled Wii Sports game in North America. Now, Nintendo of Canada has announced a special Nintendo Switch bundle that includes Nintendo Switch Sports, sparking speculation that this could be Nintendo’s final push to top PS2’s 160 million sales. Currently, the Switch trails by around 4.5 to 5 million units, with sales of the original model steadily declining.
Some players joke that the Switch might have already surpassed the PS2 if official numbers were higher, while others suggest this move could reignite competition with Sony. However, Nintendo Switch Sports has sold significantly fewer copies than Wii Sports, with under 20 million units compared to the Wii classic’s massive success. Games like Ring Fit Adventure, which launched just over a year earlier, may have also influenced its reception.
Beyond sales battles, the Nintendo Switch remains one of the most versatile consoles, featuring a 6.2-inch display (or 7.7 inches on the OLED model), detachable Joy-Con controllers, and support for 1080p resolution when docked. Its portability with up to 9 hours of battery life, along with the more compact Switch Lite model, continues to make it a strong contender in the gaming market.
