What Happens After 1,000 Years in Stardew Valley?

Stardew Valley 1000 Years Experiment Stuns the Community
A Stardew Valley 1000 years experiment has shocked the community after one player literally slept through an entire millennium in-game. The player, known as Holozard, shared the bizarre result on Reddit, instantly drawing massive attention. Instead of farming, socializing, or exploring, the character went straight to bed every single day for 1,000 in-game years.
As a result, the once-peaceful farm transformed into something closer to a post-apocalyptic museum.
How Sleeping for 1,000 Years Was Even Possible
According to the post, the experiment took place on Stardew Valley running on Nintendo Switch. To make it work, the player left the console running for nearly three weeks nonstop. Meanwhile, a controller with a turbo button repeatedly pressed the A button, while a rubber band locked the analog stick to the right.
Because of this setup, the game crashed nine times, and the Joy-Con eventually developed severe stick drift. However, the plan still worked.

A Farm Frozen in Time and Covered in Meteorites
After waking up in the year 1001, the farm looked nothing like its original form. Meteorites covered large portions of the land, while red mushrooms spread across the area unchecked. Eventually, the player spent three full in-game seasons clearing trees and mushrooms, leaving only meteorites and owl statues behind.

At the same time, the game’s performance suffered heavily. Load times became extremely slow, especially compared to PC or Xbox versions. The player later admitted this experiment would have been smarter on another platform.
What Happened to the Town and the Animals
Naturally, other players asked about Pelican Town’s condition. Screenshots showed debris scattered everywhere, although some paths cleared themselves due to NPC movement. In contrast, Cindersap Forest became almost completely overgrown, turning navigation into a nightmare.
Even more disturbing, farm animals technically survived. One screenshot showed a chicken aged 3,997 months, clearly unhappy. Since the character slept immediately every morning, the animals never left their buildings. As expected, their expressions said everything.
Profit, Chaos, and Community Reactions
Despite the chaos, the experiment had benefits. The player earned nearly USD 14,000 worth of gold from mushrooms alone. Consequently, they described themselves as very happy, even though the controller suffered permanent damage.
Unsurprisingly, the Reddit post exploded, earning over 7,500 upvotes. Many comments praised the dedication, while others questioned the player’s sanity.
Why Players Are Doing This Now
This strange challenge likely happened because many fans are waiting for update 1.7. Additionally, players continue to anticipate Haunted Chocolatier, the next project from Stardew Valley’s creator.
Until then, some players clearly prefer sleeping for 1,000 years instead of waiting patiently.
