Ghost of Yōtei Wins on Gameplay but Loses Story Depth to Tsushima

Ghost of Yōtei, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, has become a heated discussion among PlayStation 5 fans shortly after release. According to a large poll by Push Square with over 10,000 participants, the results reveal that while many players love Yōtei’s improved gameplay, they still find Tsushima’s story and protagonist more emotionally captivating.

When asked which title was overall better, 32% of respondents favored Yōtei, while 45% still preferred Tsushima, and 23% remained undecided. Breaking it down further, 82% of players agreed that Ghost of Yōtei excels in gameplay, with 23% even stating that every gameplay element was “significantly improved.” Only 7% believed it was inferior to its predecessor.

However, the story category told a different tale. Around 58% of voters believed Ghost of Tsushima’s narrative was superior, with 30% saying it was “much better.” Only 9% felt Yōtei’s story topped the original. When focusing on the protagonists, Jin Sakai from Tsushima overwhelmingly took 71% of the votes as the “better main character” compared to Atsu from Yōtei.

This poll captures a clear sentiment among players: Ghost of Yōtei might offer better combat and mechanics, but it still can’t surpass the emotional depth and resonance that Ghost of Tsushima achieved. Still, opinions may evolve over time as new updates or story expansions arrive to enrich Yōtei’s world.

THIS IS OUR SAY: While Yōtei sharpens the swordplay, Tsushima still holds the heart. Sometimes, it’s not just how you fight it’s why you fight.
