NetEase Announces Shutdown of Marvel Mystic Mayhem Less Than a Year After Launch

NetEase has once again delivered disappointing news for Marvel fans, officially confirming that Marvel Mystic Mayhem, its mobile tactical RPG, will be shutting down after being available for less than a year. The announcement marks yet another title that struggled to maintain its footing in the highly competitive mobile gaming market, despite being backed by the globally recognized Marvel brand.
NetEase Announces Marvel Mystic Mayhem Shutdown Less Than a Year After Launch
Marvel Mystic Mayhem launched as a free-to-play title in June 2025, positioning itself as a strategic RPG that allowed players to assemble teams of iconic heroes and villains from the Marvel universe. While the game initially attracted attention, its overall reception failed to gain lasting momentum and ultimately fell short of expectations. Its performance also did not come close to matching the success of Marvel Rivals, NetEase’s previous collaboration with Marvel Games.

NetEase began notifying players of the service termination through in-game messages on December 24. According to the announcement, the shutdown process will be carried out in phases. Planned content updates will continue through March 2026, including the addition of six new characters Phoenix, Iceman, Venom, Wolverine, Cyclops, and Morgan le Fay alongside one final story chapter. All updates are scheduled to conclude on April 1, 2026.
As part of the shutdown preparations, NetEase will disable in-game purchases starting December 25. To compensate players, the company will distribute free in-game currency and unlock the Battle Pass through the remainder of the update period, ensuring players can fully experience the game’s final content. At this time, a permanent server shutdown date has not been confirmed, though NetEase stated it will provide at least 60 days’ notice before any final closure.
The early shutdown of Marvel Mystic Mayhem highlights the intense competition within the mobile gaming market and the ongoing challenge of retaining a stable player base, even with a globally recognized franchise like Marvel. Players who remain active will still have time to enjoy the game’s final updates into early 2026, while the future of the servers awaits further official announcements from NetEase.
