Microsoft has officially released Windows 11 26H1 Build 28000 to Canary channel users in the Insider Preview program, confirming the existence of this next-gen update. The full release is expected in early 2026. Unlike typical feature updates, 26H1 is a platform-specific upgrade targeting devices with new ARM chips, such as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Elite and Nvidia’s N1X, which are also slated for launch in early 2026.
The 26H1 update does not add consumer-facing features from 25H2 but instead focuses on platform support for next-generation silicon. This approach highlights Microsoft’s shift toward hardware-specific releases, ensuring Windows 11 can fully leverage ARM architecture advancements.

A key enhancement in 26H1 is the introduction of the Bromine core, replacing Germanium used in 24H2 and 25H2. This update modernizes the underlying OS framework, laying the foundation for a potentially major 26H2 release later in the year. Build 28000 has reached RTM (Release to Manufacturing), allowing hardware partners such as Qualcomm and Nvidia to preinstall it on new ARM laptops. Early adopters may see devices shipping with 26H1 from the start of 2026.
