Microsoft Rolls Out KB5071546 Security Update Fixing 57 Vulnerabilities
Microsoft has released the important KB5071546 security update for Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC and users under the Extended Security Updates program. This update focuses on fixing fifty seven security vulnerabilities, including three Zero Day exploits that have already been used in real world attacks. As a mandatory update, it installs automatically and requires a system restart once the installation is complete.
After updating, Windows 10 systems move to build number 19045.6691, while Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 updates to build 19044.6691. Since Windows 10 no longer receives new features, this update centers entirely on security improvements and bug fixes to maintain system stability and reliability for users still depending on the platform.
One of the most critical fixes addresses a severe remote code execution vulnerability found in PowerShell under the ID CVE 2025 54100. This issue is tied to the Invoke WebRequest command, which could automatically process unintended scripts embedded in a web page. If triggered, it could allow malicious actors to run harmful code remotely without the user’s knowledge, making it a significant threat that required immediate attention.
To counter this risk, PowerShell 5.1, the default version in Windows 10, now introduces a new warning prompt each time a script might execute during web content retrieval. Users must choose whether to continue or cancel the action, adding an essential safety layer that helps prevent hidden scripts from executing without approval.
For websites with uncertain credibility, Microsoft also recommends using the UseBasicParsing parameter with Invoke WebRequest to avoid processing any embedded scripts. Additional documentation explains how to apply this option safely, helping users further protect themselves from potential threats.
Microsoft confirms that no known issues have been reported from the KB5071546 update so far. Because the update resolves active Zero Day attacks along with dozens of other vulnerabilities, users are strongly encouraged to install it immediately to maintain maximum system and data security.
