YouTube Music Syncs Queues Across Devices with Last Played Track Feature
YouTube Music users can now enjoy a seamless listening experience across devices, thanks to Google’s latest update introducing queue synchronization. The new feature allows your playlist to stay in sync whether you’re using Android, iOS, or the web. Previously, queues were device-specific, forcing users to manually find and continue songs when switching between platforms.
Pick Up Exactly Where You Left Off
The update also introduces a last played track display in the Miniplayer. When opening the app on a new device, it shows the most recent song you were listening to on another device, with a note specifying whether it came from an iPhone, Android, or browser session. This ensures that users can continue listening immediately without searching their playback history.

How the Sync Works
Queue synchronization prioritizes the last play session, automatically updating or overwriting the existing playlist with the latest queue from the recently used device. This is particularly helpful for users who maintain long playlists on a computer but want to continue listening on mobile without interruption.
Enhancing Multi-Device Convenience
This improvement significantly enhances user experience (Quality of Life) for anyone who uses multiple devices such as a tablet and smartphone or switches between work and leisure sessions. It removes the frustration of rebuilding playlists whenever changing devices.
However, some users have suggested adding an option to enable or disable synchronization, allowing separate playlists per device. For example, one could listen to relaxing music on a tablet while reading, and upbeat tracks on a phone while exercising. Currently, syncing occurs automatically across all devices using the same Google account.
How to Use the Feature
To use the new queue sync and last played track feature:
- Log in with the same Google account on all devices.
- Update YouTube Music to the latest version on mobile or access the latest web interface.
- Enjoy seamless playback with your queue synced and the last played track ready to resume immediately.
This update brings YouTube Music closer in line with competitors like Spotify, providing a smoother and more convenient listening experience for multi-device users.
