AMD Radeon RX 9070 Appears in Steam Survey for the First Time as RTX 50 Dominates Gamer Market

Steam has released its latest Hardware Survey for December 2025, marking the official transition into 2026. One of the most notable highlights is the first appearance of the AMD Radeon RX 9070, based on the RDNA 4 architecture, in Steam’s database. Throughout most of 2025, GPUs from the RX 9000 series failed to register on the survey at all, making this debut an encouraging first step for AMD as it enters the competitive end of year market.

Despite this milestone, the Radeon RX 9070 launched with a modest market share of just 0.22 percent. This places it well behind NVIDIA’s flagship RTX 5090, which already holds a 0.60 percent share. More notably, it even trails the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop, the least adopted model within the RTX 50 Blackwell lineup. These figures highlight how strongly the high end GPU market continues to favor NVIDIA.

Looking at the broader NVIDIA landscape, the company remains firmly in control of the Steam user base. The five most popular GPUs are RTX 3060, RTX 4060 Laptop, RTX 4060, RTX 3050, and GTX 1650. Combined, these models account for approximately 27 percent of all Steam users. Within the newest generation, RTX 5070 leads the RTX 50 series with a 3.05 percent share. Altogether, the RTX 50 family now represents 12.72 percent of the total GPU market on Steam.

On the AMD side, while RX 9070 is only beginning its journey, the most widely used clearly identified Radeon GPU remains the RX 7800 XT at 1.57 percent. Meanwhile, generic Radeon Graphics entries without specific model names account for a sizable 6.18 percent share. This suggests that AMD continues to maintain a strong and loyal presence in integrated graphics and mid range segments, leaving room for potential growth if future products deliver strong value.

CPU market data paints a more competitive picture. AMD has significantly strengthened its position, reaching a 47.27 percent share on Steam, while Intel stands at 55.47 percent. The gap continues to narrow toward a near even split. CPUs with 6 cores, 8 cores, and 12 cores saw the largest growth, aligning with modern gaming demands that increasingly favor multi threaded performance.

Finally, display resolution trends show that 1080p remains the dominant choice among gamers at 53.68 percent. However, 1440p continues steady growth at 21.77 percent, while 4K adoption stands at 5.47 percent. These numbers suggest that most players still prioritize refresh rate and overall value rather than pushing for maximum resolution, especially during a period when high end GPUs remain expensive and mid range cards have not seen the VRAM upgrades many expected.
